The AEMY-group took part in the first regular meeting of the Open Design Environment for European Chips (OED4EC) on the 14th and 15th of September 2026 following the OrConf in Gent.
The ODE4EC-project is funded by the European Union and a group of European nations and has the goal of advancing the ongoing development of open-source tools for use in chip design, to create the prerequisits for a more independent chip industry in the European Union.
Scope of the Meeting
During the meeting we were able to meet the other contributors in person and have an exchange about what they will be working on during the project. The ODE4EC project is organized into three different working groups that work on tools for Analog Design (AMS), Digital Design (DIG), and Design Verification (PIV). The different working groups did have separate meetings on the 14th of September. In those meetings the different contributors did present their respective work packages, what the current state of the work is and the next steps. In addition, we got an introduction to the project-specific documentation responsibilities and the conventions for dissemination. On the 15th of September there was a discussion on how to meaningfully measure engineer productivity improvements for Digital Design and Design Verification, as those are highly dependent on the experience of the engineer with the given tools. The analog design group also presented work on integrating mixed signal design into open-source analog design tools.
Contributions of AEMY to the project
The AEMY group at the Munich University of Applied Sciences is part of the subgroups for Digital Design and Design Verification. We are contributing to the work on the LLVM-based CIRCT synthesis tool, the development of the Spade hardware description language, and the continued development of open-source tools for the Portable Stimulus Standard (PSS), which is a domain-specific language for the description of test scenarios.
